IIRM’s Global Thought Leadership in Personalised Nutrition

IIRM has long been at the forefront of innovation in personalised medicine, with a specialised focus on diet and nutrition. Founded by internationally certified recognised thought leaders Dr. Janethy Balakrishnan and Nils Bokström, IIRM has played a pivotal role in shaping global discourse around the principle that "one man’s food is another man’s poison." Their approach is rooted in systems biology, in contrast to purely reductionist models—embracing the complexity of human physiology and biochemical individuality.

Dr. Balakrishnan and Mr. Bokström have travelled extensively across continents, delivering keynote lectures, leading workshops, and sharing evidence-based insights into how personalised nutrition can significantly transform health outcomes. Their work emphasises the importance of tailoring dietary strategies to the individual—taking into account metabolic phenotypes, food sensitivities, and specific clinical presentations.

In 2018, IIRM launched a certification course in food sensitivity and intolerance testing, aimed at equipping healthcare professionals with the tools to identify and manage hidden dietary triggers—often linked to chronic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and progressive disease conditions.

Continuing to push the boundaries of nutritional science, IIRM has also conducted pioneering research on the roles and types of fats in various clinical contexts—well before the popularisation of MCT oils, “bulletproof coffee,” and intermittent fasting within the biohacking community. These early insights contributed to shaping therapeutic nutrition strategies not only in preventative care and longevity, but also in the management of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative conditions, and beyond.

Through its research, education, and advocacy, IIRM continues to challenge outdated dietary norms and remains a leading force in the global advancement and education of foundational integrative, and personalised nutrition.
